According to a poll released by on the Wall Street Journal, welfare was considered the key cause of this economic issue rather than other factor related to the economic distribution of resources. Given a list of at least eight factors, participants were asked to choose a factor that was most responsible for the persistent poverty problem in the country. About a 24 percent of the respondents claimed that a lot of government welfare prevents initiate thereby contributing to poverty as a serious economic problem.
